JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Level 2 support Engineer to join our team on an innovative, cloud-based digital assessment platform used by educational and governmental institutions worldwide. The platform covers the full exam lifecycle—from planning to feedback—while promoting fairness, academic integrity, and a seamless learner experience.

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Level 2 Support Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for investigating issues in our AWS-based infrastructure and applications, running basic diagnostics (e.g., SQL queries, AWS logs), and communicating effectively with internal teams to ensure timely resolution.

REQUIREMENTS 

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCES

• Experience working in a support or operations role (minimum 2 years), preferably in a SaaS or cloud-based environment
• Basic familiarity with AWS services (Lambda, S3, ECR, CloudWatch, API Gateway, Batch, RDS)
• Strong SQL skills – ability to write queries for diagnostics and troubleshooting
• Basic understanding of web technologies (HTTP requests, parsing HTML/PDF)
• Exposure to Elasticsearch for search and indexing
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools

SOFT SKILLS

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with team members and document solutions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues efficiently
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• A proactive approach to identifying potential issues and implementing solutions

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

• Proactively monitor production systems, specifically focusing on data ingestion, file processing, and web content processing workflows from crawlers
• Respond to and resolve alerts related to system performance, data flow, and infrastructure health
• Utilize Amazon CloudWatch logs for monitoring and troubleshooting system and application performance
• Diagnose and resolve issues related to data crawling, parsing (using Cheerio, pdfjs-dist), and indexing, specifically for web-based and file-based content (PDF)
• Investigate and address problems within our Elasticsearch clusters related to data storage, indexing, and search accuracy
• Collaborate with development teams (using Node.js, Python, TypeScript) to identify root causes of production incidents and implement preventative measures
• Assist with routine maintenance tasks, including database monitoring (MySQL)
• Ensure optimal performance of our data storage and processing components hosted on Serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, AWS Batch, ECR)
• Contribute to the ongoing optimization of crawling processes and data pipelines to enhance efficiency and accuracy
• Provide support for issues related to the Sentence API and Document API, understanding their request/response structures and how they integrate with core similarity-checking and AI detection technologies
• Work with technologies like Axios for API calls to Google Translate API for cross-lingual detection
• Maintain clear and concise documentation of system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and incident reports
• Generate reports on system performance and incident trends
• Adhere to all security and data privacy policies, ensuring the protection of user data and documents stored in AWS S3 and other databases
• Understand and support access control mechanisms, including JSON Web Tokens (JWT) for authentication and authorization
